How do I check what my child is doing on the computer?

Have the computer in a living room/family space- not in a bedroom.

Install adult content filters such as Filtergate (Free)

Net Nanny ($40)

Cyber Sitter ($40) - Best of the bunch.

Nothing beats talking to your children about what they do on the net and watching what they view or do there!!

School Policy is to make Internet use safe for pupils, to teach them to avoid actions which could endanger them and to prevent access to unsuitable material

It is very important that parents are aware of this policy and the school would urge parents to implement the same policy at home

The use of programs such as Cyber Sitter or Net Nanny will prevent your children from accessing unsuitable material on the Internet

Safety Rules

All Pupils using the Internet will be given the following safety rules, will be required to sign them and to have their signature witnessed by a parent prior to being allowed access.

1. I will not give my name to a stranger on the Internet

2. I will not give my home address or phone number to a stranger on the Internet

3. I will not send or receive photographs on the Internet without an adult's permission.

4. I will not give my personal e-mail address to a stranger.

5. I will not arrange to meet with anyone I have met on the Internet

Policy Outline

We in Moneydarragh Primary School have in place an acceptable use of Internet Policy, to ensure that a safe use is made of the Internet by Staff and Pupils. The Policy ensures:

Use of Filtered Internet Service Provider.
Chidrens' use of the Internet is a Supervised activity.

Children will be informed about and understand Internet Safety Rules.
Web Sites used by children will be viewed by staff prior to use and also regular checks will be made on the computer's Internet browser bookmarks, cache or history.
